Dan Asher (b. 1947, Cleveland, OH) had a prolific career in a variety of mediums (including photography, painting, sculpture, music and video). Asher is perhaps best known for his contemplative works on paper defined by gestural and vibrant strokes of graphite, oil and tempera that were completed in the early 1980s. Through these expressionistic, masklike portraits, Asher explores the connections and lapses between the psychological and the corporeal, the personal and the public, the absurd and the austere.
Dan Asher lived and worked in New York until his death in 2010.
